How to Block Websites on a Belkin Router

The article intends to describe the procedure of blocking unwanted websites on a Belkin router. The information compiled here is simple and reliable. However, it is strongly recommended that users follow and implement the instructions accurately to avoid facing common Belkin router problems. This will eventually save them from contacting Belkin router support for help.

Do you want to block certain websites like adult, advertising or promotional websites etc. from the viewing of your kids or other users in the house? Most of the users prefer to put safe computing into practice for their kids and other users in the house. If you have a Belkin router, you can easily do so. The below mentioned guide will help you block the desired websites on your Belkin router on your own and without the help of Belkin tech support services.

Instructions:

Connect your computer using an Ethernet cable to one of the 4 LAN ports (located at the back) of Belkin router. When done, connect to the internet and open your web browser. Type ‘192.168.2.1’ (without quotes and as it is) in the browser’s address bar and press Enter on the keyboard.

Type your login credentials like username and password on the router’s login page and click on the Submit button. Make sure that you type in the correct information; otherwise you won’t be able to access the router configuration page. If you never changed your login information, then it must be one that came originally with the router docs. Check them for the reference if you are not sure. Since Belkin routers are shipped without password, you don’t need to type anything in the Password box, simply click on Submit to continue to the configuration page. If you added a password previously to your router, then type it in to proceed.

Click to select the Parental Control feature on the left hand side pane under the Utilities heading. The location of this feature may differ depending on the model of your Belkin router. It must also be noted that you should have subscribed to the ‘Parental Control’ service in order to use it. If you are under the trail-offer period, you can use the service until it expires. Thereafter, you can subscribe to the service.

Type your email address and password to login to the ‘Parental Control’ menu. When logged in, click on the Modify button and then click on the Overrides tab. Type the website name (URL) that you want to block in the ‘Type keyword or domain name here’ box, select the ‘Always’ button under ‘Keyword blocking’, and then click on the ‘Apply’ button. Yes, now you are done blocking the desired websites. Enjoy safe browsing!

Additional Tips:

Make sure that you type the website URL completely and accurately. Otherwise, the router won’t block it. For example, you want to block the Facebook “official Site” in the ‘Add Keyword’ box and then click on the ‘Apply’ button. You can also type a keyword like Facebook and the router will block all the results that contain that particular word ‘Facebook’.
