Uses for Vinegar in the Hot Tub

Soaking in a hot tub, especially when it’s cold outside, bring forth both a relaxing and rejuvenating feeling. Using a regular household product is one unique way to improve the experience further without spending extra money. Try some vinegar to spice up the tub.

Apple cider vinegar isn’t just for cooking anymore. Adding a few cups of apple cider vinegar to a hot tub will aid in relieving sore muscles. This hydrotherapeutic method will not harm the hot tub although it will take some time for the filters to effectively remove the vinegar from the water. Remember when soaking to relieve sore muscles or to loosen tight muscles shouldn’t be used for the first 24 hours following the injury. An apple cider vinegar soak in a hot tub can help stop itching skin related to allergies or other dermatitis, as well as helping to take the heat out of a sunburn.

In addition to cleaning and relaxing muscles, vinegar can be used to lower the pH level of the water. The normal pH should be somewhere between 7.2 and 7.6. If the pH is too high, meaning the water is too basic, there is an increased risk of developing that nasty looking scaling around the top of the water on the walls of the tub. By adding four cups of white vinegar or apple cider vinegar at a time and then allowing the tub to run through a cycle and circulate the pH can safely and effectively be lowered.

Vinegar is one way to clean the jets. The acidic quality of vinegar eats away at oily residue that has built up in the tub as well as the calcium and other chemical deposits in the jets and tubing. To use vinegar to clean a hot tub, simply pour a one gallon jug of white vinegar into the tub and turn on the jets through one cycle. This will allow the vinegar to penetrate the inner workings of the tub and begin to eat away at all of the buildup. Vinegar can be used as a cleaning agent for hot tubs and is gentle enough that it will not harm any of the working parts or the tub itself.

It is an effective part of hydrotherapy when used in hot tubs and can assist in cleaning out the tub as well as controlling the pH. Vinegar is not just for cooking anymore.
