16 million smartphone users in Ncell network

The country’s mobile phone imports have skyrocketed to Rs 32 billion in the last 10 months. Looking at the data being used in the network of mobile and service providers being imported in the country, the import and use of smartphones has increased a lot.

More than 10 million consumers use smartphones in the network of private sector mobile service provider Ncell alone. According to Ncell’s latest statistics, 65 percent of the total customers in its network are using smartphones.

According to the first quarterly financial report of 2021 released by the Malaysian company Axiata, the main investor of Ncell, 16 million customers are using smartphones in Ncell’s network.

According to the report, the total number of Ncell subscribers has reached 16.3 million. In this regard, out of the total customers, 165,400 people have used smartphones.

Compared to the same period last year, the number of smartphone users on the Ncell network has increased by 2 percent to 65 percent. In the first quarter of 2020, 63 percent of consumers used a smartphone.

In recent years, the use of barphones has been declining while that of smartphones has been increasing. Smartphones have a lot of features, the use of mobile data is increasing and the availability of cheap smartphones is increasing its use.

Smartphone users in Ncell’s network have increased by 23 percent in the last five years in the country. In 2016, 42 percent of its customers carried smartphones, compared to 52 percent in 2017, 59 percent in 2018, 65 percent in 2019 and 2020, and 65 percent in the first quarter of this year.

The demand and use of data services is increasing due to the fall in data service charges and falling prices of smartphones. Also, the use of smartphones has increased over the past year since the Corona infection started online school classes, home office work. Its imports and sales have also increased.

According to the report, the monthly internet usage of subscribers in Ncell’s network has reached 2798 MB. It was 1312 MB in the same period last year. Ncell has 3,306 3G BTS towers and 3,461 4G BTS towers across the country.

There are more smartphone users in Ncell than Robi in Bangladesh and Dialog in Sri Lanka, which are run by Axiata. As of the first quarter of 2021, Robi 50 and Dialog 58 percent of consumers use smartphones.

Axiata-invested Cellcom and XL have a large number of smartphone users. According to the latest statistics, 89 percent of Malaysia’s Cellcom customers and 90 percent of Indonesia’s XL customers use smartphones.

Ncell has expanded 3G and 4G services across the country. With the availability of mobile data, users are also converting to smartphones.
