All the customs clearance process will now be done through automated system

The Sixth Customs Reform and Modernization Plan has been made public by implementing all the procedures of customs inspection through automated system.

It is mentioned that ‘Nepal Customs Automation System’ will be implemented in 29 customs offices across the country under the scheme. Finance Minister Janardan Sharma unveiled the plan at a function at the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday.

Five different achievements have been projected in the Sixth Customs Reform and Modernization Plan. Among the achievements of the plan are trade facilitation, realistic revenue collection, protection and security of the society, automated customs system and organizational development and capacity building.

The plan mentions the need to make the export and import process timely, cost effective and predictable by facilitating trade.

Under realistic revenue collection, realistic revenue collection will be increased by modifying and enforcing the customs law.

Under the protection and security of the society, measures will be taken to monitor and control the transportation of goods, means of transportation and means of transportation to prevent illegal trade and movement of harmful goods in the country.

It also aims to increase the competitiveness of the customs administration under organizational development and capacity building. The scheme expects to receive an additional 15 returns through these achievements.

Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Sharma said that the success would be achieved only if the service recipients were satisfied with the issues included in the customs reform plan and achieved the expected target. He mentioned that the Sixth Improvement Plan would play an important role in conducting transparent and simple customs administration.

He said that he would pay attention to the policy and legal reform plan as the customs reform plan would take shape only if it came.

Finance Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini said that the issues included in the customs reform plan are the commitment of every employee working in the customs.

He expressed confidence that the Sixth Improvement Plan would achieve the expected results by streamlining the areas of customs administration and customs revenue.
