The Patan High Court has given a new interim order to restore the automatically canceled license of Smart Telecom, which has not paid billions in arrears and renewal fees.

A single bench of Patan High Court Judge Narishwar Bhandari issued a show cause order along with an interim order on behalf of the opposition on Wednesday.

On behalf of Smart Telecom, Ramnath Bantha Tharu filed a writ against the Prime Minister and Cabinet Office, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Nepal Telecommunication Authority and the Chairman of the Authority.

According to the Telecommunications Act, Smart Telecom’s license was automatically revoked after Smart did not pay dues and renewal fees to the government. After that, Smart Telecom appealed to the court to save the license.

After the automatic cancellation of the license, the board meeting of Nepal Telecommunication Authority held on May 4th decided to manage the property of Smart according to the Asset Management Regulations of Telecommunication Service Providers whose license is not valid, 2079.

But on Wednesday, the court asked to stop the current orders and not to implement all the decisions made by the authority board. In addition, the court issued a show cause order in the name of the opponent and called for a discussion on the interim order.
