Authority making charging station to be operated by Nepal Police

A memorandum of understanding regarding the construction and operation of an electric vehicle charging station has been signed between the Nepal Police Headquarters and the Nepal Electricity Authority. Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh and Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Kulman Ghising signed the memorandum on Monday during a ceremony held at the Nepal Police Headquarters.

In the ceremony, Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh thanked the Nepal Electricity Authority for the agreement regarding the construction and operation of the charging station and requested to expand the charging station in the police offices where there are more police manpower in the future.

Stating that they have been cooperating with the Electricity Authority in the past regarding electricity theft, electric pole theft etc., Inspector General of Police Singh said that Nepal Police is always ready for the security of charging stations established in highways and hilly districts.

At the ceremony, Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, expressed confidence that the Nepal Electricity Authority’s goal is to establish one charging station every 60 km of the highway, and the role of the Nepal Police will be the most effective in this.

He said that cooperation with Nepal Police will be very important to solve the security challenges and location problems in setting up charging stations.

At a time when the world is concerned about the negative impact of carbon emissions on the atmosphere, environment and fauna, this agreement has been made to provide easy charging facilities to electric vehicles in operation with the aim of promoting the use of electric vehicles to reduce the carbon footprint.

Sagar Mani Gyawali, Assistant Manager of Nepal Electricity Authority, highlighted the importance and purpose of the establishment of the charging station in the event. Additional Inspector General of Police, Acting Deputy Executive Director and Assistant Manager of Nepal Electricity Authority, Deputy Inspector General of Police and senior police officers were present in the event.
