Believing that Apan’s conference in Kathmandu will help in expanding research and educational network

The 55th International Conference of the Asia Pacific Advance Network, established in collaboration with national research and educational network organizations of 17 countries in the Asia Pacific region, has started. More than 300 people from 17 different countries are present at the program which was organized for the first time in Nepal.

Communication and Information Technology Minister Rekha Sharma formally inaugurated the conference on Tuesday. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Sharma said that not only the state, but also associations, universities and experts working in technology should give priority to making the technology accessible to the common people and increase investment.

Stating that the digital divide is also increasing along with the development of technology, Minister Sharma emphasized that work should be done to reduce the gap of the digital divide.

In addition to the Digital Nepal Framework, Minister Sharma said that the importance of research in the ICT sector has also been emphasized, as research is the backbone of innovation and development. She said, ‘With our right policy, strategy and investment, Nepal can become a hub of innovation and a leader in the ICT sector.’

Likewise, the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Dr. Pramiladebi Bajracharya said that they are taking initiatives for research in the field of science and technology in Nepal, and through such programs, the government will get an opportunity to collaborate with international experts.

In the program, APAN President Geelong Wang praised the first program of Nepal and said that cooperation with the Nepalese government will strengthen the cooperation between scientific research and the international community.

The Apan program organized by NREN (NREN), an organization engaged in scientific research and collaboration in various fields of information and communication technology, was organized for the first time in Nepal.

Lochanlal Amatya, chairman of the original organizing committee, said that for the past 25 years, two international conferences have been organized every year in different countries of the Asia Pacific region in collaboration with the combination of national research and educational network institutions in the Asia Pacific region and in collaboration with scientific research, innovation and various universities of different countries of the world.

APAN’s 55th conference has been running since February 29. More than 55 sessions will be conducted during the five-day conference, and more than 175 representatives will give presentations focusing on various fields such as education, information technology, and scientific research. In this conference, 4 persons, including two Nepalese, will address the conference as keynote speakers.

In the opening program, senior climate change expert Dr. Arunbhakt Shrestha and Himal Arohi Purnima Shrestha gave a keynote presentation. He highlighted the role that experts in the field of information and communication technology can play to reduce the negative effects of climate change.

Executive Director of Nepal Research and Education Network Dr. Rajan Parajuli said.

Dr. Dr. who will play a role in strengthening the scientific cooperation between the countries of the Asia Pacific region in relation to the necessary infrastructure for scientific research in Nepal. Parajuli said.

The main coordination of this conference project has been done by the Nepal Research and Education Network (NREN) in cooperation with the information technology related organizations of Nepal and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

This five-day international conference, which is being held physically for the first time after the global spread of the Covid epidemic, has excited the organizations and individuals working in the field of information and communication technology. In the same way, it has succeeded in focusing the world’s attention on the effects of climate change taking place in Nepal.

In the conference, which will be held till 3rd of Chaitra, there will be a comprehensive discussion among the participants focusing on various areas of information technology implementation such as disaster management, agricultural modernization, human health and medical technology, access to scientific data, internet security, etc.

180 representatives from 25 countries and more than 150 to 350 representatives from various universities and institutions related to information technology in Nepal will participate in the event for five days.

It seems that this APAN conference, which is going to be held for the first time in Nepal, will help in the implementation of the Digital Nepal Framework, which has been advanced by the Government of Nepal as a priority.

There is support from various organizations for the organization of this international conference. The conference project has been collaborated with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as well as the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. Nepal Telecommunications Authority, Nepal Telecom, Ruijie Networks, APNIC, Internet Society, [email protected], e-Hualu and other organizations have supported the conference. Internet bandwidth required for the conference has been provided by Worldlink and Subisu.
