Digital Karnali Conclave 2024 begins

Digital Karnali Conclave 2024 has started from February 18 i.e. today. This two-day conclave is a joint project of the Karnali Province Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law and ICT Foundation Nepal, and more than 40 national and international experts are participating.

The Digital Karnali Conclave was inaugurated today by the Chief Minister of Karnali State, Raj Kumar Sharma, by lighting a lamp on the Digital Panas. Karnali State Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law Secretary Dhuvra Ghimire gave a welcome speech. They said, ‘Digital transformation, digital leadership, digital infrastructure, digital entrepreneurship and other issues will be discussed in the 2-day Digital Karnali Conclave 2024. We believe that this discussion will prove to be a milestone for Digital Karnali. This will help in creating necessary policies and laws and preparing strategies for digital Karnali.’

More than 50 experts and stakeholders are present in the program which focuses on the theme of digitization and development of Karnali province. The program being organized at Siddharth Resort located in Surkhet Birendranagar has a large presence of representatives of the federal government and state and local government. The concerned ministers and secretaries from the other 6 provinces have also been invited to the conclave.

Former Minister and Patron of ICT Foundation Nepal Ganesh Shah also gave a welcome speech and said ‘This conclave will be important to advance Karnali’s digital journey. Now the local level should also be prepared for digital Karnali. Along with this, I also request the Karnali state government to create a digital Karnali framework. Surkhet can become Nepal’s Silicon Valley.’

There are 4 important keynote presentations and 6 panel sessions in the conclave. Similarly, the power dialogue session of specific problems in the leadership is also included. In the conclave, the program started with the digital situation, efforts and capabilities of Karnali province, and the program will be concluded as a promise and takeaway of digital transformation.

The organizing organizations have informed that the conclave will be fruitful in connecting Karnali province with development through technology and leading it toward digital transformation.

The conclave will also emphasize on expanding and promoting local production, agriculture, education and tourism through technology in cooperation with national and local stakeholders. As there is a gap in digital understanding in leadership and policy making, the ministry said that the conclave will also emphasize digital literacy.

Efforts have been made to connect organizations working in digital services, startups and new initiations in Karnali province to the conclave. The positive efforts being made through the use of technology in the fields of education, health, agriculture, tourism, energy etc. have been provided an opportunity for stalls and short video presentations at the conclave.
