Our answer to this question is NO! Doing hair-extension in the right way will not damage your hair, even could protect your hair. Why you have this question in your mind? I guess that you may get inspired by the gorgeous big volume hair on Ins, Pinterest, or Tiktok. You want that dream hair look, but you may concern a lot about your own hair’s health. After all, there is a lousy reputation for Hair extension for a long time. Doing research has always been intelligent behavior! You won’t do any research to buy a house or a car, and it should be the same for you are considering hair extensions! Do not be rush to do your hair extension before you finish reading this article!

Following, we will illustrate the critical points for every reason. First and the most important thing you need to understand is 80% of hair extensions damage. Your natural hair can not afford the extra hair bonds’ weight to cause pressure and tension to your hair. No matter what kind of extension methods, beaded, weft, or tape-ins, there is a shared methodology. For doing a beautiful hair extension without damage, you could know the following principles:

1. Make sure standing natural hair can support the weight of hair extension.

If you want to install 50 strands of hair, you should have at least 50 strands of your hair to support that 50 stands. Many stylists put very little hair for support, thinking that it will be smaller, more invisible, and more comfortable. However, there is not enough hair to support the weight, which will cause some tension and pressure on your hair, red spots, painfulness, or even worse, hair loss you could suffer.

2. Make sure the direction goes with the natural fall direction.

When it comes to applying for the stylist when they’re putting them in, the bond should hang as a natural fall. There should be a little bit of the space between where it connects the head and where the bond starts for some free-flowing movement. Every hair should be supporting the weight of the cement. 3. Avoid putting the bond too close to the head.

Too many stylists do mostly wrong is they put the bond too close to the head (As Picture 3 shows).  So when they put that bond tight like this, it opts out and gives it a little bit of volume that is not necessary because the top few hairs are being stressed and pulling a little too much, and the bottom hairs are pushed into the head, not supporting any weight at all. 4. Do not be blind to pursuit the length and volume of hair beyond your hair’s affordability.

We would recommend you not install two times the length of your hair length, and as for weight hair extension, you could not install too much hair if you are wearing fine or thinner hair. ( may not exceed 120 grams)

5. Interview your hairdresser if she/he gets trained properly.

Do not just listen! If you are new to hair extension, you could quiz them during your consultation following questions: Which extension method you can do? Have you learned” that method”? And where did you train it? Do you get any certificate on this method? Could you show your work of before/ after? And it is better to check the closer zoom-in picture of their work to see if installed correctly.

6. Due to the methodology of less weight and pressure on your natural hair, Hand-tied extension, and tape-in extension are the best choices for less damage.

7. Right care of Hair extensions means a lot for maintaining your hair health.

WASH EXTENSIONS CORRECTLY

As far as washing goes, cleanse from the top down while working the shampoo gently, then rinse and detangle gently, so you do not release the bond. Maintenance appointments on these extensions are required every few months as they become looser when your natural hair grows underneath. Don’t wash your hair too much. We recommend cleaning the hair as infrequently as possible and using a dry shampoo to absorb oils and make your hair feel and smell fresh.

BRUSH WITH CARE

Brush 2 to 3 times a day and before showering or wetting hair. Use a soft bristle brush to detangle the hair without damaging it. Hold the roots of your hair with one hand while brushing in a downward motion with the other. Brush gently, and be particularly careful with the bonds.

DAILY CARE

  • Use professional hair care products and avoid salty or chlorinated water. Salt and chlorine harm your hair extensions just like they harm your natural hair.
  • Apply oils or sprays from the mid down. Leave-in conditioners and hydrating oils are great for hair extensions, especially if they are feeling dry.
  • Please don’t sleep with wet hair once your hair extensions are completely dry. Braid hair or tie it in a loose ponytail.
  • Don’t use heat tools too often. Just like with natural hair, too much mechanical heat will damage hair. When you do use heat tools, be sure to use a heat protectant. You can also use non-heat methods to curl your hair extensions.
  • Don’t chemically process the hair. Avoid any products that lighten a natural color, create waves, or straighten natural curls.
