Entrepreneurs excited to invest in electric vehicles

Entrepreneurs have been encouraged to invest after the budget of the Fiscal Year 2078/79 abolished excise duty and exempted tax on electric vehicles.

Entrepreneurs claim that public and private electric vehicles will increase after the abolition of excise duty and provision of subsidy.

Bhesh Bahadur Thapa, chairman of Sundar Yatayat Pralika, which operates electric public transport, said, “This time, the government has provided all possible facilities for electric vehicles. Now the implementation side should be better.

In the budget, a policy arrangement has been made to operate electric bus in major cities including Butwal, Pokhara, Chitwan, Biratnagar, Itahari and Kohalpur outside Kathmandu Valley.

Chairman Thapa says, “Necessary relief has been provided. He said that the number of electric vehicles will definitely increase in the coming year as the construction of the charging station has been started and the infrastructure work has also started by fixing the charging fee.

After the ban is lifted, Sundar Yatayat plans to have an assembly plant and add an electric bus. Chairman Thapa informed that 10 bighas of land has been arranged in Sainamina Municipality of Rupandehi for the assembly plant.

Sundar Yatayat has stated that it will bring 25 more public electric buses from China. According to Thapa, the buses had already arrived in Kolkata and were stopped due to the Corona epidemic.

280 million buses stopped

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated five electric buses from Singha Durbar in October, 2008. The buses could not come into operation as they were of poor quality.

Although purchased from China, the buses were opened after an investigation in India. The buses were purchased by BYD Cymex with a grant of Rs 280 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Fuel saving and environment friendly

The government had adopted a policy of incentives for the past three years as electric vehicles would save fuel and be environmentally friendly. The government itself has also taken the initiative to operate public electric buses.

Currently, work is underway to bring government buses through public transport. The government has been giving priority to electric buses in the previous budget, but this time there is a claim of beautiful transport provided by the budget to provide encouragement.

The Bagmati State Government, Kathmandu and Lalitpur Municipal Corporation have also put forward a plan to operate public electric buses.

Electric vehicles are noise and smoke free. Due to which it is suitable for the environment and human health. It is environmentally friendly and is also a suitable alternative to petrol and diesel in terms of fuel economy.

Fuel-powered vehicles cost between Rs 3,500 and Rs 4,000 while electric vehicles cost Rs 700.

According to Chairman Thapa, passengers in an electric bus should not have headaches or vomiting like in a fuel-powered vehicle. Passengers do not have to face noise.

Since there is a lot of open space, it is a comfortable journey. As it is also technology friendly, rent can be paid electronically. GorkhapatraFrom
