Despite the government’s announcement to build a National Knowledge Park in Khulmatar, Kathmandu for the development of information technology sector, no other expenditure has been incurred except meeting allowance.

The then Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada had allocated Rs. 10 million for the construction of National Knowledge Park in Khumaltar in the fiscal year 2076/77 BS. Since then, there has been no progress other than spending meeting allowance in the name of building the knowledge park.

The 58th annual report of the Auditor General has mentioned that no progress has been made from the budget except for the meeting allowance of Rs. 329,000 spent for the construction of the park.

The report has pointed out that the expenditure could not be incurred.

It was announced to build a national knowledge park with the objective of developing, expanding and promoting Nepal as a destination of information technology industry at national and international level for the development of knowledge based economy.

The government has also prepared the ‘National Knowledge Park (Establishment and Operation) Directive, 2076’ for the construction and operation of the knowledge park.

The purpose of the park is to carry out various activities related to information and communication technology. Such as establishing and providing information technology related industries, conducting necessary research and training, information technology system design, development and integration of systems, call center / business process outsourcing, blog chain, big data, IoT, AI. The purpose is set.

In addition, information technology based services, training / electronic training, software specialization, manpower development activities, operation of incubation centers, technical assistance centers, data centers, cloud computing, data housing and data backup and recovery management, hardware fabrication, entrepreneurship development activities. The government aims to do the work in the knowledge park.
