For a socialist-oriented economy, we are going to give 22 percent share of telecom to the customers: Minister of Communications

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung has said that 22 percent shares of Nepal Telecom are being distributed to customers for a socialist-oriented economy.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry on Friday, Minister Gurung said that customers will now be able to convert the service of Nepal Telecom into shares.

Nepal Telecom is one of the highest earning and revenue paying government companies in Nepal. Minister Gurung questioned whether the people could be the shareholders of such a for-profit company.

He said that this would make the people rich, help prosperous Nepal and end Nepal’s poverty.
