Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has said that Frequency Policy 2080 has been issued to discourage the trend of not working after obtaining a frequency license.

On the occasion of the completion of one year since taking charge of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology on January 3rd, on Thursday, Minister Sharma informed that the Frequency Policy 2069 (Amendment 2073) has been revised and the Frequency Policy 2080 has been issued.

Sharma went on to say, 'Frequency Policy 2069 (Amendment 2073) has been amended and Frequency Policy 2080 has been issued to discourage the tendency of keeping frequency licences, not paying revenue to the state and not working. From this, the technology neutrality policy will be implemented from July 1, 2081.'

According to Sharma, this is expected to discourage the trend of taking license and paying zero or very low revenue for frequency.

Similarly, she did not inform that the property management regulations of telecommunication service providers whose licenses are not valid have also been amended. Sharma said that apart from managing the assets, there is an arrangement to automatically return unused radio frequencies.

“Radio frequency is the property of the state as a limited natural resource, the regulation has been amended with the main objective of preventing its misuse. I believe that it will help to solve the problems in the telecommunication sector,” Sharma continued.
