Internet users all over the world use Google for any information. Google has become an integral part of Internet users’ lives. Now Google has made a name for itself in everything from email to generative AI. Over the past 25 years, we’ve seen huge changes at Google.

Google was started in a garage

Larry Page and Sergey Brin started Google in a garage. Both of them were doing PhD from Stanford University in California. During this time, they both did a lot of research on how the World Wide Web works. They developed a system that determined which pages on the Internet were linked to others and this was the beginning of Google.

This system was later developed into a search engine. After that, these two creators together created an algorithm that was used to rank search results based on links.

How was Google named?

A few years later, Page and Brin changed their company’s name to Google. They received a hundred thousand dollars in funding and this helped further the development of the search engine. In 2003, the Google company office moved to Mountain View, California and its number of employees reached 1000.

The Amphitheater Technology Center, now owned by Silicon Graphics, became known as the Googleplex and is now the company’s largest office.

Google brought Gmail

The following year, on April 1, 2004, the company introduced Gmail with one gigabyte of storage, which set it apart from other products and gave the company a chance to make further progress. Other options were only giving a few megabytes of storage space.

Google’s Maps launch and YouTube acquisition

After introducing Gmail, Google introduced Google Maps, which users can use to get directions, zoom in on maps, and find things like hotels. However, it was not useful until 2009 when Google introduced turn-by-turn GPS navigation to Maps on smartphones.

After that, Google bought YouTube for 1.65 billion dollars, beating Microsoft and Yahoo. YouTube was only a year old and there was work to be done and the company started working on making YouTube more manageable.

Google introduced the Chrome browser and Android

Google introduced Chrome, the most used browser for Windows, in 2008 to create a dominant position in search and make search more relevant for users. A few months later, in 2005, Google introduced the world’s first Android phone, the T-Mobile Z1 HTC.

Google acquires DeepMind AI

After working on several new projects, Google acquired an AI firm and started working on artificial intelligence (AI) and other services based on it.

Google Reorganized

Google reorganized in 2015 and Alphabet became Google’s parent company. Along with this, the company has also introduced new brands like Verily, Waymo and Wing.

Many products like the Google Pixel were introduced

Google entered the hardware and voice assistant segment in 2016 and tried to attract users with several new products including Google Pixel, Google Home and personal voice assistants on phones.

Google enters the world of Bard and AI
