Here’s how to use public WiFi safely

The Internet has become a daily necessity of man today. The need for it has increased in the Corona epidemic.

The Internet is used in online classes, online meetings, virtual work and other activities. We sometimes use public WiFi when we are out of our room.

But using public WiFi safely can be dangerous. So today we are discussing how to stay safe while using public WiFi.

Always pay attention to the device

The first step in securing your public network is to set up the device you are using. So your device should not be connected to the ‘automatically connect to Wi-Fi’ option.

This option should be turned off to prevent your device from connecting to any WiFi you find at any time. Otherwise your device and privacy may be compromised.

Use it and forget it

Manually connect the available WiFi keeping in mind the above mentioned. Used WiFi network can be forgotten by manually connecting. Because of this, your device will not automatically connect to that network in the future

Take precautions

After entering the world of internet, you need to be careful. Double check the networks and websites you use because not all public WiFi networks are reliable.

So don’t trust every public space that connects. There may be a hand of a cyber criminal behind that. Because of this, caution is required.

Use of antivirus

You need to use a strong antivirus solution to protect every device you use from hackers. This protects the device from hacking, malware attacks and other viruses.

Don’t just leave the antivirus installed. Update your antivirus from time to time to deal with new threats.

Do the necessary research

Feel free to check the available public networks. Before connecting to your device at a hotel, restaurant or any area that provides public WiFi, get the details of the WiFi authentication and IP address. This way you can avoid many problems.

Don’t run a site that requires a password

Do not type your sensitive information when using a public WiFi network. Also, do not run websites that require you to login with your password.

Do not use social media sites, personal mail IDs, bank account apps and websites at all.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

If you really need to use a WiFi network, use a VPN.

Internet connectivity via VPN receives encrypted messages that make it difficult for hackers to hack and also protect your device by protecting IP addresses.

It also protects you from the dangers of phishing.

Watch on HTTPS

Once you have connected to the public WiFi network by following all the security measures, you need to make sure that the website you are visiting is secure.

While surfing the website, make sure that there is a green box in the URL or address bar starting from HTTP.

The green box indicates that the site is secure and has a valid digital certificate and SSL / TLS encryption update.

Adopt two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication can be used to double the verification process.

Enabling two-factor authentication to use hotspots adds another layer of security to prevent cybercrime attacks.

Log out of the site after use

Before disconnecting from the public wireless connection, log out of all the sites you have logged in.

If you do not log out, a hacker may have a harmful attachment. So it is wise to log out no matter how long you have been on the WiFi network.
