Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane has submitted a proposal to the Cabinet to use helicopters to extinguish fires in different parts of the country. Lamichhane suggested that a helicopter should be used to bring the fire under control as soon as possible because of the loss of life and property.

Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Spokesperson and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs informed that after an internal discussion in the Ministry, Home Minister Lamichhane has taken such a proposal to the Council of Ministers regarding the large amount of loss of life due to fires in forests and settlements.

“There are reports that the settlement has been destroyed by the forest fire. Therefore, the Ministry was discussing that if the fire was extinguished quickly, so much damage would not have been possible,” he said.

According to Bhattarai, the Council of Ministers has not passed the proposal of Home Minister Lamichhane. He said that if the Cabinet agrees to use helicopters for fire control, the work will be carried forward soon.

“We are concerned about this matter. Therefore, as soon as the resolution is passed, we will proceed with the work,” he said.
