Huawei kicks off Seeds for the Future for the second year running
Huawei organized the opening ceremony of Seeds for the Future 2022 in Kathmandu today. This program is Huawei’s global flagship CSR program aimed at undergraduate students of all ICT (related disciplines).
This is the second year that Huawei started the program in Nepal. The program was first launched in Thailand in 2008. Since then, more than 12,000 students from more than 130 countries and regions have participated in the program.
This year, the company has received 256 applications from all over Nepal. Then Prof.Dr. Shashidhar Ram Joshi, Prof. Timila Yami Thapa, Prof. Dr. Suvarna Shakya and Prof.Dr. 7 students were selected based on GPA, motivation letter and selection interview taken by Manish Pokharel. These are the 7 students selected from Nepal.

Since being selected in July, the students have been gaining insight into Nepal’s ICT industry through various engagements. Students have received data center classes in Nepal, visited Dishhome offices to learn how FTTH Internet works, and participated in Chinese calligraphy and Chinese paper cutting workshops at the China Culture Center in Kathmandu.
UNESCO has also engaged the students as part of the organization’s The Next 50 campaign. Students will also be able to participate in the first regional onsite program to be held in Bangkok from August 19 to August 27, where they will see practical applications of 5G, AI, cloud computing, metaverse and other emerging technologies. will learn about
In addition to this, they will be looking at practical applications of 5G and engaging in cross-cultural learning with students from 14 countries. They will also participate in the Tech for Good competition where students will have to come up with original ideas to combat real-world environmental or social problems.
The winning teams of the Tech Four Good project will be eligible to participate in the Tech Four Good Accelerator Camp to be held in Singapore from August 29 to September 2. After their return, the students will visit the Huawei-built base station at Muktinath in late September.
Speaking at the event, the guests were the Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. Vaikunth Aryal, Chairman of Nepal Telecommunication Authority Purushottam Khanal and the members of the selection committee thanked Huawei for bringing such a program and wished 7 students the best of luck for the Tech for Good competition.
Huawei Nepal board member Jason Lee also said that Huawei wants to enable talented students to get international exposure and a platform for learning.
