Huawei’s Seeds for the Future program launched in Thailand

Huawei has launched Seeds for the Future 2022 in collaboration with the ASEAN Foundation and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). From August 19 to 27, the program will bring together 120 outstanding students from 16 countries in the Asia Pacific region for a 9-day digital boot camp in Thailand.

Since Huawei and the ASEAN Foundation signed an MOU in 2021, Asia Pacific Seeds for the Future 2022 marks the first time this event has been organized. In this year’s event, TAT will also host the participants on a cultural tour of the bank.

Local government officials and representatives of various international organizations were present at the opening ceremony. Speakers at the event highlighted the important role multi-party collaboration plays in building a strong foundation for the region’s digital talent ecosystem.

Jurin Laksanawisit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand, said, “I am very happy to chair the opening ceremony of Seeds for the Future in Asia-Pacific region in Thailand in 2022 and I would like to thank Huawei for this. I believe that co-training with companies like Huawei will greatly enhance the quality of education and is a great step forward in digital development with the goal of bringing the economy to an international level.”

ASEAN Secretary General Dato’ Lim Jok Hoi stressed that digital talent will be the driving force in building Digital ASEAN.

ASEAN Foundation Executive Director Dr. Yang Mee Eng said, “The growth of the ASEAN digital economy depends on the participation of the region’s youth. To nurture a generation of digital savvy and innovative problem solvers, it is critical that ASEAN stakeholders create a robust learning ecosystem that helps our youth advance their digital skills.”

Huawei Asia Pacific President Simon Lin reiterated Huawei’s own commitment to talent development. He said, ‘Seeds’ represent hope, passion and future. As the longest-running corporate-level flagship CSR project, the program has brought together more than 12,000 students from nearly 140 countries and regions, nearly 500 universities. We strongly believe that the young generation will pursue their technological dreams and grow to be the builders of the Asia Pacific.”

His Excellency the Minister of Education of Bangladesh Dr. Dipu Moni opined how digital talent can bridge historical gender gaps.

Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s flagship corporate social responsibility program that brings together young talents from top universities around the world.

The program was launched in Thailand in 2008 to inspire ICT talents and encourage them to tackle social challenges through digital solutions. By the end of 2021, the program had been applied to 12,000 students from more than 500 universities in 137 countries and regions.
