Information and Communication Technology in the Budget: These are inclusive programs

The government has brought a budget of Rs. 1647.57 billion for the fiscal year 2078/79. On Saturday, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel presented a budget of Rs 1.647 trillion.

The budget includes information and communication technology (ICT) in the field of internet, electronic visa with QR code, telemedicine, tax exemption for startups, national payment gateway, free seam for students and loans to buy laptops, construction of electronic charging stations and other things.

Stakeholders have said that even though the budget has covered old issues in the field of information and communication technology, it has not been able to address some of the attractive new issues.

Which ICT programs were included in the budget?

१. Telemedicine technology in priority to make health care more effective

२. Full discount on charges for those consuming up to 20 units of electricity

३. The government will set up a one billion startup challenge fund for the development of startups

४. Students will get free SIM

५. Students can buy a laptop up to 80,000 at 1 percent interest

६. Startups will be given concessional loans of up to Rs 2.5 million

७. The government will provide regular agricultural information from the mobile app

८. A separate weather channel will now be launched to provide weather information on television

९. My lot system will now be operated in all districts

१०. Virtual trade will be organized to promote local products

११. Broadband internet will be provided to all community schools within the next two years

१२. Budget allocation of Rs. 180.04 billion to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology

१३. GPS will be connected in the vehicle, online ticketing will be arranged in public transport

१४. One hundred electric vehicles of public transport will be operated in a year

१५. Kathmandu Valley Transport Authority will be formed

१६. 500 electric charging stations will be constructed

१७. Grants will be available for operating electric vehicles in major cities

१८. Customs exemption will be given on household electrical goods from the next fiscal year

१९. 7.74 billion budget allocation to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology

२०. Mobile device management will come into operation from July 1, illegal mobiles will not work

२१. Electronic visa with QR code will be issued

२२. Bringing NTV World into operation

२३. Salary of government employees increased by 2,000

२४. Digital Nepal Framework will be implemented in the coming Fiscal Year

२५. The National Gateway Switch will come into operation in the coming fiscal year

26. 22 percent shares of Nepal Telecom to be owned by the customer

२७. Startups get tax exemption for 5 years

२८. To study e-commerce from postal

२९. All types of services provided by government agencies will be interconnected with citizen apps

३०. Now, land registration, name transfer and other work related to land administration can be done from home

३१. Full exemption from excise duty on electric vehicles

३२. 10 percent tax refund when paying online

३३. Loan up to Rs. 2.5 million can be obtained by pledging educational certificate
