Internet service problem in Nepal after upstream cut off the internet

Nepal’s main Internet service providers (ISPs) are experiencing issues with their networks. Since Thursday afternoon, major internet service providers in Nepal, including Subisu, Worldlink, and Vianet, have been having problems with their speed.

The upstream provider had disconnected the internet, according to Keshav Nepal, CEO of Worldlink. Following the bandwidth reduction by upstream provider Bharti Airtel, there was a problem with the internet service.

A few days ago, ISPAN, the association of Internet service providers, issued a warning that if the government does not suggest using foreign currency to pay for bandwidth import fees, internet service could be interrupted at any time.

In a letter, the upstream provider Bharti Airtel warned that failure to pay for the allocated bandwidth would result in the interruption of internet service.

However, the government has suspended foreign exchange operations because billions of arrears have not been paid.
