IT service exports from Nepal worth more than 67 billion, an increase of 64 percent in one year

About 515 million US dollars or 67 billion 668.4 million Nepali rupees have been exported from Nepal in information technology services in 2022.

A study led by the Center for Comprehensive Development Studies (IIDS) has shown that information technology services have been exported over 67 billion in 1 year.

In the year 2022, 106 information technology companies and 14,728 freelancers exported services worth more than 67 billion.

According to the study, IT companies exported 201 million, IT freelancers 69 million and Information Technology Services Enabled Services (ITES) freelancers exported services worth 244 million US dollars in 2022.

Compared to the year 2021, the export of information technology services has increased by 64.2 per cent. In 2021, IT services worth 313 million US dollars were exported. Similarly, in 2020, IT services worth 308 million US dollars were exported from Nepal.

IIDS conducted the study with the participation of 389 freelancers and 86 IT companies as primary data. Apart from this, more than 100 stakeholders were also consulted.

The data of Nepal Rastra Bank, Internal Revenue Department, National Statistics Office, Company Registrar’s Office and Online Labor Index were taken as secondary data.
