The Department of Computer Science and Engineering under the Kathmandu University School of Engineering is going to start two new undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Artificial Intelligence (BTech / MTech AI) from September 2021.

The main objective of launching this program is to produce experts related to this field locally and globally, said Bal Krishna Bal, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kathmandu University.

For the first time in Nepal, this educational program is being conducted by Kathmandu University. The total number of seats currently offered is 30 at the undergraduate level and 10 at the postgraduate level.

Bachelor of Technology in Artificial Intelligence (BTech in AI)

It is stated that this program will provide practical knowledge related to Artificial Intelligence to the graduate students by imparting adequate practical training. According to Bal, the program will provide students with an experience of practical knowledge through project-based learning through internships.

Graduates of this program will be able to use AI technology and methods to implement data-driven decisions in companies and organizations associated with this program. Therefore, through this course, the concerned students will be able to analyze various data as well as build automated machine technology.

The program will begin with an introductory course in technical basic programming, computer science, mathematics and statistics. Later in the course students will learn the main AI concepts as well as techniques including search for a perspective, game development, machine learning, neural networks, computer vision, language and more complex topics.

The program is said to be a mixture of both science and engineering. This program is not registered with the Nepal Engineering Council. The total fee for this four-year academic program of Kathmandu University has been fixed at Rs. 800,000.

Masters of Technology in Artificial Intelligence (MTech in AI)

The program is for exercises related to skills, knowledge, advanced computation, data science and AI studies, which will help create new opportunities locally as well as globally.

In particular, it will cover neural networks, Fuji systems, and evolutionary competition. The curriculum of this program mainly includes machine learning, neural network, big data analytics, information retrieval, Fuji system and evolutionary competition.

The program will provide opportunities for experimental testing of what you have learned in order to tackle practical life issues related to various areas such as trade, economics, security, industry control and engineering. The total fee for this two-year educational program has been fixed at Rs. 395,000.
