MDMS should be fully implemented in 6 months, the businessman says – we have got a commitment of 2 months

Nepal Telecom Authority has implemented Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) from Friday. As soon as this is implemented, the IMEI number of all mobiles entering Nepal should be registered. If not registered, such mobiles will not work.

MDMS is not the only thing that will not be able to run any unregistered after the implementation of this system. This is likely to take some time. The regulatory body NEA has said that the MDMS system will be operational from July 1 and will be fully implemented within some time.

Chairman of the Telecommunication Authority of Nepal, Purushottam Khanal, said that it would take some time for the full implementation of MDMS starting from July 20. “We will continue to implement it in a phased manner,” Khanal said. “The regulations have given us time to implement it in a phased manner for six months from the start.”

Sub-section 4 of Section 3 of the Mobile Device Management System-2075, a regulation made for the management of mobile sets, provides that unregistered mobiles will be shut down after 6 months of MDMS operation.

Accordingly, unregistered mobile phones cannot be switched off from July 1. It is clearly mentioned that the implementation period will be 6 months.
According to Khanal, all listings will be done during this period, information will be given to mobile importers, mobile importers and customs revenue will be given access. Also, it is necessary to cooperate with telecommunication service providers.

Also, this is the time to register individually imported mobiles. According to Khanal, it is written in the regulations that MDMSS is a stage of implementation as various works have to be done after it comes into operation.

The mobile importers said that they have received a commitment from NEA to fully implement it within a period of two months.
Chairman of the Mobile Phone Importers Association of Nepal, Deepak Malhotra, said that the NEA has received a commitment to fully implement it in the next two months.

Talking to NEA, he said that it has been completed in two months starting from July 20. “They have given us two months to fully implement it,” Malhotra said. “Even if it is fully implemented after two months, we have no problem.”

Malhotra says that he is in talks with NEA and is confident that it will be fully implemented in a few months even though it will not be fully implemented from tomorrow.
