Nepal was not included in the list of startup-friendly countries, but Kathmandu managed to be among the top 1000 cities

Kathmandu city of Nepal has succeeded in being among the best 1000 startup-friendly cities in the world. Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2023 lists Kathmandu as one of the 1,000 best startup-friendly cities in the world.

According to the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2023 published by Startup Billing, Nepal is not included in the list of the best 100 startup-friendly countries in the world. But in Asia, Singapore is number one, while China is third, India is sixth, Pakistan is fifteenth, Sri Lanka is 17th and Bangladesh is at eighteenth.

Similarly, in the list of the top 100 startup-friendly countries, America is first, Britain is second, and Israel is third.

In the study of more than 100 countries and more than 1000 cities in the world, although Nepal did not make it to the list of the best countries, Kathmandu managed to be ranked 537 among the best startup-friendly cities. But the city’s ranking has also dropped this year. Kathmandu, which was ranked 529 in 2022, has dropped to 537 this year.

Startup Blinlock has been publishing the Global Startup Ecosystem Index based on various parameters in collaboration with Crunchbase, UNDP, Bright Data, Semerus, Meetup, Statista, Sap.io Foundations and Lagaika.

Lately, startup culture has started to flourish in Nepal. So far they are moving forward on their own strength. The government has not been able to pay much attention to the development of the startup ecosystem.

The government has been discussing bringing a startup policy for the development of the startup ecosystem for a few years now. But it still hasn’t come. On the other hand, Chief Secretary Dr. Vaikunth Aryal said that the startup policy will be passed this year.
