Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, Watch Active 4 Rumors, Launch Date

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch lineup of smartwatches is highly revered for its seamless combo of health tracking features and an attractive design. The company finally launched the successor to 2018’s first-gen Galaxy Watch back in August 2020. And now, a leak suggests that Samsung is already gearing up to bring its successor, the Galaxy Watch 4, alongside the Watch Active 4 in the market.

Galaxy Watch 4, Watch Active 4 Rumors:

This bit of info comes from a reliable leakster who goes by “Ice universe” on Twitter. According to him, Samsung will simultaneously launch these two smartwatches in Q2 2021. The leaked naming convention is especially interesting considering how there wasn’t a Galaxy Watch Active 3, to begin with. Yet, this South Korean conglomerate had done something similar coming with the Watch 3 as well. And maybe Samsung is looking to synchronize its naming convention with the upcoming smartwatches.

Beyond this, there’s not much known about the Watch 4 and Watch Active 4 for now. There have been a couple of interesting rumors surrounding them in the past couple of weeks though. The first (and probably a disappointing one) states that Samsung will be ditching its excellent Tizen platform in favor of Google’s WearOS. Google’s solution for smartwatch comes with its own perks like a vast library of app selections. But, the Tizen OS has an exceptional design and optimization.

Please don’t abandon Tizen OS, Samsung

So, I really hope this leak stays confined to a rumorunless Samsung has found a way to improve WearOS. Additionally, the forthcoming smartwatches from the company are also rumored to feature blood sugar monitoring. Traditionally, this crucial procedure for diabetic patients involves taking a blood sample via a small prick on their finger. So, if Samsung has found a way to eliminate this painful procedure, that’s really promising news.

According to the rumors, the company will be using a built-in optical sensor in the watch using a “Raman spectroscopy” tech to monitor their blood glucose levels. Unless medically approved, we can’t speak about the certainty of this method. And then there’s the concern of wider availability. To recall, last year’s Galaxy Watch 3 came with an ECG sensor and a blood pressure monitor built-in. However, it failed to receive approval from concerned medical associations to warrant a global release at launch.

Moving on, Samsung might also be trying to follow in the footsteps of Apple by launching two smartwatches at once. Apple launched its top-of-the-line Watch Series 6 alongside the Watch SE last year which turned out to be a pretty successful strategy. Here, while the Galaxy Watch 4 will be a flagship offering, the Watch Active 4 will cater to budget-concerned fitness enthusiasts.

Galaxy Watch 4, Watch Active 4 Launch Date

According to Ice universe, Samsung will be unveiling the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch Active 4 smartwatch in Q2 2021. We also expect the company to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Note 21, and Z Flip 2 within this time period.
