The procedures approved by the former Home Minister Lamichhane regarding the National Identity Card are cancelled

The government has canceled the procedure approved by former Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane so that private companies can obtain the personal details of the National Identity Card.

Government Spokesperson, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma informed that the procedure 2079 related to verification of citizen’s details and inter-system affiliation was canceled by the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.

She said, ‘The Ministry of Home Affairs has passed a procedure to provide personal data and state security matters to private companies in the process of verifying citizens’ details and mutual affiliation in a secure manner through the National Identity Card Management Information System. It has been decided to cancel that procedure.’

According to him, the government has decided to form a separate committee to investigate how the procedure was passed.

According to the procedure, the Ministry of Home Affairs called for a 7-day tender and gave the responsibility of acquiring the personal details in the national identity card to a private company.
