Zoom is purchasing a startup to bring a real-time translation system to video calls.

The name of this startup is Karlsruhi Information Technology and it is a German startup. Its system is based on machine learning to translate in real time.

The company is also known as Kites and has partnered with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The company has dozens of researchers investigating the subject.

Zoom did not elaborate on the financial aspects of the deal, but said it would open a research and development center in Germany in the coming days.

Real-time translation based on machine learning is expected to help Zoom’s customers worldwide.

This feature will also help Zoom to compete with existing video conferencing apps like Cisco.
