After the widespread rumors about the upcoming Pixel 5a 5G being canceled due to chip shortage, Google has chipped in to flat-out dismiss the said rumors. The company has not only confirmed the existence of the device but also its moniker and the launch market. The upcoming Pixel 5a will be a 5G-ready device and will initially debut in only two markets.
Google Pixel 5a 5G Rumors Roundup
It was Jon Prosser who first reported that this year’s Pixel 5a 5G will be canceled due to the global chip shortage. The ‘a’ suffixed phones in the Pixel lineup are usually toned-down variants of their bigger sibling and are popular because of their compact form factor, modest specifications, and relatively affordable asking price. So, the news of it being canceled coming from a leaker as reputed as Prosser was bound to make headlines.

Representatives from Google have since contacted Android Central and 9to5Google and confirmed that the Pixel 5a 5G has not been delayed—and it will indeed launch later this year. Still, the chip shortage will limit the availability of the device.
Design and Specifications
OnLeaks had previously shared the design of the upcoming Pixel 5a 5G. According to him, the phone will sport a similar body and design as its immediate predecessor. However, it is reported to be taller by 2.3mm, narrower by 0.8mm, and thicker by 0.6mm, compared to Pixel 4a 5G.
The phone will sport a 6.2-inch flat OLED panel with a left-aligned punch hole. At the back, we get to see the same rectangular camera bump, a fingerprint scanner, and Google branding. The camera bump will house a dual-camera setup and an LED flash. The phone will also feature stereo speakers and retain a 3.5mm audio jack.
