World of Warcraft Tips – Configure Your Windows Firewall For Faster WoW Downloads

Configuring your firewall, with a Windows XP operating system, may sound tough but it isn’t that bad if you follow along. It will save you a lot of time downloading patch files if your firewall understands that you want to allow Blizzard.com to load files onto your computer. Roll your sleeves up and let’s get started.

WoW uses ports 3724 and 6112 to add files to your World of Warcraft folder on your hard drive. To configure these ports for Windows XP, follow these steps

  • Click on the start button from your desktop

  • Click on the control panel.

  • If you are using the category view for your control panel you will need to double click on the security center option. If you use the classic view of the control panel then skip this step.

  • Double click on Windows firewall.

  • The general tab, at the top of the box, should be the default tab when the firewall settings open. If not then click the general tab now.

  • Make sure that the button is clicked that says On (recommended).

  • Click the tab labeled exceptions and click the add port button at the bottom of the box.

  • In the box marked name, type BLIZZARD DOWNLOADER.

  • In the box marked port, type the port number as 3724. Be sure that the button marked TCP is clicked and then press the OK button.

  • Click add port again.

  • In the box marked name, type BLIZZARD DOWNLOADER.

  • In the box marked port, type the port number as 6112. Be sure that the button marked TCP is clicked and then press the OK button.

That’s all there is to it. It wasn’t as hard as it sounds is it?
