Digital banking will also now be part of the financial literacy programme

Now digital banking service has also become a part of financial literacy program. Digital banking services have also become part of Nepal Rastra Bank’s Financial Literacy Guidelines 2079, which included electronic services. Previously, it was not included in the financial literacy program conducted by banks and financial institutions.

In the guidance brought by the National Bank, it is stipulated that financial knowledge, financial objectives, financial electronic services and the use of securities market, financial discipline, remittances, savings, credit, risk management and other topics should be included.

According to the guidelines, financial literacy materials should be prepared for social networks, websites, mobile apps, mobile libraries, digital boards, online sports, competitions and educational materials, newspapers, radio, FM, publications, CRBT, etc.

Rastra Bank has stated that while communicating literacy materials, it should not be advertising of its services, branding of the organization, commercial campaigns, but basically focusing on developing useful financial knowledge and skills.

When conducting financial programs, priority should be given to remote areas and places with less financial access. Also, programs for each target group will have to be made and implemented.

It is mentioned that banks and financial institutions should be clear about the services they provide while communicating financial literacy materials.
Organizations have to submit financial literacy action plans to National Bank, Financial Inclusion and Customer Protection Division within the first quarter of the financial year.
