On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Tenzing Norge Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary climbing the highest peak of the world, fiber internet was delivered to 2 villages.

The project was formally launched by holding a program in Solukhambu on Sunday. The program was attended by Sir Edmund Hillary’s son Peter Hillary, New Zealand former Prime Minister Helen Carlock, Internet Society Regional Director Nabed Oolhaq, Internet Foundation Nepal President Vikram Shrestha, Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality Ward No. 4 Chairman Laxman Adhikari Lagai.

The earlier wireless technology in Khunde and Khamjung villages has been upgraded to fiber. With the expansion of fiber, residents of Khunde and Khamjung and climbers coming to climb Mount Everest can now use high-speed quality internet, said Vikram Shrestha, president of Nepal Internet Foundation.

After reaching the fiber, Khamjung Secondary School, Khunde Hospital and Khunde Community Club will now be connected for free. In the first phase, fiber internet will be connected to public places and in the next phase, fiber internet will be connected to homes. Internet will be provided at low cost to connect to homes.

Chairman Shrestha informed that the high-speed fiber internet will connect the local people with access to digital education and telehealth and new income opportunities.

It is said that it will also attract climbers who want to climb Mount Everest. After fiber, there is also a plan to install security systems in Khunde and Khamjung villages.

The system is believed to play an important role in protecting your home and animals when you are away from the local village. There are also homestays in Khunde and Khamjung, where the culture of the Sherpas can be experienced directly.
