Houses in Lalitpur Metro now in ‘metric’ address system

60 thousand nine hundred and 88 houses of Lalitpur metropolis have been entered in the metric address system. Distribution of house numbers based on metric system and road network within Lalitpur metropolis has also been completed.

Geographical Information System (GIS) officer Uttam Kaki informed that 60,988 houses in all 29 wards of the metropolitan city have been distributed house numbers based on road network and metric system.

The second Municipal Assembly held in 2074 decided to distribute house numbers according to road network and metric address system.

Now if you know the house number and street name of the person you want to meet in Lalitpur metropolis, you can easily reach the house in Lalitpur metropolis.

Within the metropolis, 91,399 structures including single residences, joint residences, commercial buildings, offices and institutions, monasteries and all permanent and temporary structures have been recorded in the statistics. ‘We have distributed house numbers only to houses with permanent structures and residences. The temporary structures are only on record,’ said Karki.

Out of the 29 wards of the metropolis, ward No. 14 has the highest number of 3,893 houses, while Ward No. 1 has the lowest number of 1,135 houses.

He said that along with the distribution of house numbers, 1,285 main roads in the metropolis have been named in the metric system. It is said that the number of all roads and section roads within the metropolis is 9,920.

It is said that the distribution of house numbers is based on geographic information system in order to organize the service facilities provided by the metropolis while maintaining good governance within the municipality.

Metropolitan Chief Chiribabu Maharjan said, ‘This is the main foundation of a smart city. From this, it will be easy to collect the revenue collected by the metropolis on time, and it will be easy to provide the services provided to the citizens on time.’

When implementing house numbers based on the road network, odd numbers are provided to the right and odd numbers to the left from the main intersection of the road. Officer Uttam Karki said that the number is distributed based on the distance measured from the main square to the main square of the house.

Ganesh Aryal, the chief administrative officer of the metropolis, informed that a separate Geographical Information System (GIS) unit will be established in the metropolis to organize this system and to solve the problem of making its implementation effective.

The metropolis made an action plan to be completed within one year and signed an agreement with Geospatial System Pvt Ltd, Nest Pvt Ltd and Innovative Concern Pvt Ltd on 23rd January 2077. As the work could not be completed on time due to the corona epidemic, the period was extended from 6 months to one year.

According to the agreement, the details of the project completed on 22nd January 2079 with the achievements were handed over to the Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality on Wednesday by representatives of Geospatial System Pvt. Nest Pvt. Ltd. and Innovative Concern Pvt. Ltd.
