‘Illegal’ mobiles will not work from July 1

‘Illegal’ mobiles will not work from July 1

Mobile phones that entered Nepal ‘illegally’ have been out of order since August 1. Because of this rule, those who import mobile phones from abroad for personal use or as gifts are scared.

However, according to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority, this arrangement has been made only for the purpose of controlling the mobile-sets entering Nepal by evading the revenue of the state, so others should not be afraid.

NEA spokesperson Santosh Poudel told Nepal Samacharpatra that such rules are being strictly enforced to control criminal activities and increase revenue to the state.

According to Poudel, the mobiles brought directly from abroad will come into operation only after registering with the NEA online.

Although this rule is not strictly applicable to the currently running mobiles, this rule will be strictly applicable to the mobiles coming into operation after July 1.

As the company importing the mobile phones purchased in Nepal will register with the authority, all the information will be with the authority and since there is no information about the mobiles brought out, criminal activities will also take place from such mobiles and the mobile registry has been made mandatory for its control.

Spokesperson Poudel says that they are now focusing on the new mobile phones rather than the existing mobile registrations. This news is in today’s Nepal Newspaper Daily.
