Those buses and ‘vans’ with state-of-the-art facilities received from donor agencies were in trouble when the state government did not clear the way for the necessary legal procedures for their operation. The Lumbini state government has recently opened the legal way for the operation of those vehicles, which have been stalled for two and a half years.

The Provincial Council of Ministers meeting on 8th Baisakh 2080 has decided to approve the service provision of five electric buses and 14 vans of Lumbini Development Fund from white number plates to green number plates on the proposal of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Transport. is

Under the clean energy project with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADV), the fund received electric vehicles at a cost of Rs. 130 million.

When these electric vehicles were imported into Nepal, the government of Nepal incurred more than three and a half million rupees in customs revenue. For these vehicles, a charging station has also been built in Lumbini with an investment of Rs 139 million.

These vehicles, which come under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, have been parked under the open sky for a long time.

Five 19-seat capacity buses and 14 five-seat capacity vans brought for the tourist facilities of Lumbini and related Buddhist areas are equipped with automatic doors and are disabled friendly for the physically challenged.

To keep Lumbini pollution-free, these electric buses and taxis were brought to Lumbini on 9th March 2077, but due to delay in the necessary legal process and lack of operational model, they were kept under the open sky for more than two years.

These vehicles have come from the Gautam Buddha International Airport located in Bhairahawa to connect Buddha’s birthplace Lumbini and Buddha’s place Tilaurakot, Ramgram and Devdah Sang and other areas related to Buddha and to facilitate the movement of tourists in those areas.

The treasurer of the fund Dhundiraj Bhattarai informed that the legal way to operate the electric bus, which has been stalled for a long time, has been opened. ‘I am happy, these buses and vans are going to get justice’, he said.

Shanuraja Shakya, member secretary of the fund, informed that the letter which has also been directed to the subordinate transport management office Sawar Rupandehi for the implementation of the said decision has been received by the fund on Wednesday.

With this, the state government has cleared the legal way to change vehicle number plates, which has been stuck for a long time. Member Secretary Shakya said that soon these vehicles will be registered as tourism vehicles and operated as tourism services.

“Now it will take at most one month, after that we will operate the service mainly in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, and its related areas including Tilaurakot, Devdah, Ramgram, Nepal-India border and Belhia and Butwal areas”, he said. We have.’

The fund was not able to give regularity even after conducting the test of these vehicles for a few months due to lack of permission. Treasurer Bhattarai said that now a systematic plan will be made and the proposed procedure will be discussed and put into regular operation.

He said that the subsidy worth Rs. 280 million given by ADB will now be properly utilized. “The fact that the bus will be operated will make it easier for the pilgrims who regularly come to Lumbini from Ramgram, Devdah and Tilaurakot along with more excitement in the service of tourists,” he said, “Now the Dhamma Yatra will continue with electric vehicles.”

Five buses were operated free of charge as a test by the fund, stating that they will serve passengers on Dasain, Tihar and Chhath Parv from last October 13th. As a test, a circuit from Lumbini to Tilaurakot area of ​​Kapilvastu, from Lumbini to Belhia on the border of Bhairahawa, from Lumbini to Gautam Budh International Airport. Five buses were conducted as a trial run from the Buddha Mawlisthal Devdah and Lumbini via the international airport to the Golpark in Butwal via Buddha Chowk in Bhairahawa.
