Samsung is best known for its foldable phones and is again preparing to launch its new 5th generation of Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip smartphones. According to the rumours, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 have a probability of featuring dust resistance. This is an addition to their current generation, which only offers water-resistance of IPX8 ratings. This makes the product safer from damage from dust or sand.
The earlier models, however, faced challenges with dust intrusion with the subsequent releases of Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold 2. Enticingly, The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 came up featuring water resistance. Now, Samsung is taking a step forward by implementing IP58 dust resistance in the forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5.
Improved Durability
One of the Twitter users @chunvn8888 leaked the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 with a hint of IP58 rating. This rating indicates the devices can resist up to 1.5 meters deep for up to 30 minutes underwater. The leak has not been officially confirmed, but the addition of dust resistance is indeed an improvement for foldable smartphones. Their mechanical parts, like hinges, are more susceptible to dust damage; therefore, the feature of dust resistance is more important.
As of now, only Motorola’s recent Razr and Razr+ smartphones offer a similar level of dust resistance with their IP52 ratings. So, by featuring this, Samsung is heading a step further in improving the durability of its foldable devices. The brand is now more appealing to its users who use such smartphones in dusty environments.
