OneUI 5.0

Samsung plans to release public builds of OneUI 5.0 based on Android 13 before the end of the month. The manufacturer launched the OneUI 5.0 Beta program for the Galaxy S22 series two months ago. And now, the firmware is almost ready to leave the beta stage. Continue reading to learn more about the Android 13-based Samsung OneUI 5.0 update.

Samsung One UI 5.0 Overview:

Samsung discussed the new version of OneUI at large during its annual SDC (Samsung Developer Conference event). Nearly two months after Android 13 made its way to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), the smartphone manufacturer is officially launching OneUI 5.0 update for its Galaxy devices.

As of now, the company has pushed four beta builds of OneUI 5.0 for the Galaxy S22 Series in a few markets. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Galaxy S22 Ultra, S22 Plus, and S22 will be among the first to receive the update.

Rollouts begin October

While the company has not stated whether the fourth beta release of OneUI is the final release, SDC22 has provided us with a good idea of what to expect. At the Developer Conference, Samsung stated that OneUI 5.0 would be stable by the end of October.

Thus, we can expect the Galaxy S22 series devices to get OneUI 5.0 around that time. Based on previous rollouts, it is expected to be available on the S21 series and the Z Fold 4 / Flip 4 by the end of 2022. However, OneUI 3.0 may not be available for budget and mid-range phones until 2023.

What’s New?

Android 13 is relatively a minor update over Android 12. However, with the OneUI 5.0 update, Samsung is bringing a few of its own customization features to the platform. One of the most noticeable changes in the new OS is the revamped lock screen. It now supports new clock styles as well as video wallpapers, among other things. Users will be able to edit these directly from the lock screen, much like with iOS 16.

OneUI 5.0 - Widget Stack

The brand is also adding Stacked Widgets support, which allows users to place multiple widgets on a single home screen and navigate through them. Samsung has also improved the animations, quick toggle area, and notification customization with the OneUI 5. Users will also be able to customize call background effects for specific contacts.
