Telecom employees join agitation, arrested managing director
Employees of Nepal Telecom have started agitation. Stating that their demands have not been met, they staged a sit-in on Tuesday and detained Telecom managing director Dilli Adhikari in his office.
They have already been demanding amendments to the staff regulations. They have staged sit-ins and arrests saying that they have postponed it without amending it.
The managing director has returned home on Wednesday morning.
An employee said that they have started agitation demanding amendment to the regulations affecting the promotion of lower level employees. According to him, the management had promised to amend the regulations but no action was taken. 
They have demanded to amend the staff regulations with the old provisions. According to the staff, there was a provision that the managing director would retire automatically after the end of his term. In addition, the Deputy Managing Director would retire automatically after 5 years and the Directors after 8 years.
By amending this provision, provision has been made to return to the working level first after the expiration of the term of the managing director. He said that this was an obstacle to the promotion and progress of the employees.
“If the employees who reach the upper level return, how can the employees below reach old age,” said the employees.
