Uttam Pudasaini won the international level People’s Choice Rising Star Award

Uttam Pudasaini, executive director of Nepal Flying Labs, working in the field of drones, has won an international award. He is the winner of the Rising Star genre of the People’s Choice Award for Personality given by an American organization called Airwards.

The company has given awards in six different categories to individuals and organizations who have done well in the field of drones and can do well in the future. In the Rising Star category, 14 people from different countries including Pudasaini were nominated. In which the best Pudasaini of Nepal has succeeded in getting the award.

Pudasaini said that the award would provide additional impetus to the development and promotion of drone technology in Nepal. He thanked everyone who voted and helped.

Who is Pudasaini?

Born in Kathmandu, Pudasaini graduated from Sagarmatha College with a plus-two in science and graduated from Kathmandu University with a degree in Geometrics Engineering.

Geometrics engineering works on how to digitize mapping and mapping. He graduated from Kathmandu University in 2014 with a degree in Geometrics Engineering.

His team did a thesis on how realistic the data from drones is in the fourth year of geometrics engineering.

After the 2015 earthquake, there was international training on how to use drones in Nepal. After the training, ‘Flying Labs’ have been established in Nepal. Although established in Nepal, the network of flying labs has now reached 32 countries of the world.

“Research on how real the data from drones is was the first academic research in Nepal,” he said. “Around 2014, drones were not used much in Nepal.”

Pudasaini got the opportunity to go to the United States from the international organization Built Change and he worked there for one year. While working in that organization, he even went to nine or eight countries around the world to learn about drones.

“While working at the organization, we also worked on how to use drone technology in the event of a post-disaster in Nepal,” he said.

A medical drone called Drone Optimized Therapy System (Droots) of Nepal Flying Labs is working to bring sputum from villages in Pyuthan for TB testing.

Apart from Flying Labs, Uttam is also the co-founder of MapPalika. It does GIS mapping and digital mapping.

The organization is now working with Hetauda Sub-metropolitan Municipality, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, and Changunarayan Municipality in collaboration with various organizations.
