What is the Telecommunication Authority doing to manage telephone and internet wires?

The Nepal Telecommunication Authority has said that it has taken serious note of the news published in various media regarding the arrangement of telephone and internet cables on roadside poles.


In issuing a notification, the authority said that it would be difficult to manage the wires that have been hanging for decades and that the service is being provided at once so that the telecommunication service is not disrupted.

In the long term, for the management of other utilities including wires, the authority said that the necessary law is being prepared to arrange the utility duct while the road is being constructed.

According to the authority, it has already been recommended to the Government of Nepal to arrange telecommunication infrastructure service providers and the regulations are in the final stage of being passed.

In order to manage the disorganized wires in the short term, the Metropolitan Municipality, Internet Service Providers Association of Nepal and the Authority have informed that unused wires around Singhdarwar, Putlisadak, Kamaladi, Thamel, Airport, Maitighar and Patan Darwar area have been removed and bundled.

According to the authority, the wire management work will be continued by planning and managing other routes on the basis of priority.

Internet service is a very essential service and when its infrastructure is damaged, the online services provided by banks, airlines, Nepal government targeting citizens will be disrupted.

As the act of damaging the telecommunication infrastructure is punishable according to the Telecommunication Act, 2053, the authority has requested that the service provider and the authority help the service provider and the authority in its management.
