What is the Telecommunication Authority doing to manage telephone and internet wires?

The Nepal Telecommunication Authority has said that it has taken serious note of the news published in various media regarding the arrangement of telephone and internet cables on roadside poles.

In issuing a notification, the authority said that it would be difficult to manage the wires that have been suspended for decades and that the services are being provided at once, so that the telecommunication services are not interrupted.

The authority has informed that the following measures have been taken forward to manage the service so that it is not interrupted.

१. In the long run, for the management of wires and other utilities, the necessary laws are being made to arrange utility ducts while roads are being constructed.

२. It has already been recommended to the Government of Nepal to arrange telecommunication infrastructure service providers and the regulations are in the final stage of being passed.

३. In order to manage the unorganized wires in the short term, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Municipality, Internet Service Providers Association of Nepal and the authority, wires that are not in use around Singhdarwar, Putlisadak, Kamaladi, Thamel, Airport, Maitighar and Patan Darwar areas have been removed and bundled.

According to the authority, the wire management work will be continued by planning and managing other routes on the basis of priority.

Internet service is a very essential service and when its infrastructure is damaged, the online services provided by banks, airlines, Nepal government targeting citizens will be disrupted.

As the act of damaging the telecommunication infrastructure is punishable according to the Telecommunication Act, 2053, the authority has requested that the service provider and the authority help the service provider and the authority in its management.
