Leica’s Leitz Phone 1 is as expensive as iPhone 12 Pro Max

The first Leica smartphone, which was announced in June this year, went on sale . The device is dubbed the Leitz Phone 1. The smartphone is only sold in Japan and is available in Softbank’s online and retail stores for about $ 1,700 which makes it as expensive as the iPhone Pro Max model.

The main camera of the Leitz Phone 1 is equipped with 1 inch CMOS sensor featuring a 20.2-megapixel image sensor, an F / 1.9 aperture lens, electronic image stabilization and autofocus with 6x digital zoom. The front camera has a resolution of 12.6 megapixels, a lens with an aperture of f / 2.3 and a viewing angle of 78 degrees.

Leica Leitz Phone 1 camera specs

Created as a tribute to company founder Ernst Leitz and only available in Japan, the Leitz Phone 1 retains the core specs of the Sharp Aquos R6.

It has a Snapdragon 888 SoC with 5G connectivity and Wi-Fi 6, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of flash storage, a 6.6-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1260 x 2730 pixels. The smartphone runs on Android 11 operating system.

The main camera module is now circular like a camera lens, and even comes with a protective cap that’s held in place with magnets. The camera can produce both RAW and JPEG file formats, and Leica has included its own proprietary Leitz imaging engine for the promise of “state-of-the-art computational bokeh, color correction, edge refinement and realistic noise reduction.”
