Eco-friendly Party Tips
The time has come, dear readers, for all of us to start acting a little more responsibly when it comes to our planet. And what better way to be green than throw a green party? Read on to find out how you can party hard and still be on Mother Nature’s acknowledgement list!
Choose a GREEN Theme
Planting Party — Go to your local nursery or home improvement store and buy seeds, soil and terra cotta planter pots. Get some paint pens and have everyone decorate their own planters and plant their seeds. Or have everyone help plan and start a garden in the yard.
The Zoo — Have all your guests meet at the zoo. Spend the afternoon enjoying the animals. Most zoos have picnic areas and will allow you to bring in your own food. Find recycled paper plates, napkins and cups that are green and provide a picnic lunch for your quests.
OTHER REGULAR TIPS
1. Send Out E-Invites
When sending out invites to your guests, make sure you send them via email or using one of the many social networking websites online. You’ll save paper and you won’t have to depend on the Nepalese Postal Service’s shoddy handiwork!
2. Use Glass Bottels
You know how terrible plastic is for the environment, so we’ll spare you that speech! Any ‘green’ party worth its salt would never allow plastic bottles. Use glass ones instead. Not only are they environmentally friendly, they’re pretty cool too!
3. Set the Lights Down Low
There would be two advantages to having dim lighting. The more obvious and apparent would be setting a mellow mood for your party. The other advantage is that you’d be saving a lot of electricity. Better yet, use candles instead!
4. Buckle Up and Car Pool
As far as possible, try to convience your guests to car pool when they come over. That way, there could be one designated driver per group and everyone else can drink till they drop! And if the designated driver feels left out, you could always make it up to him or her in some other fun way!
5. Recycle, recycle and recycle
This one’s more for the morning after. Yes, you’ll probably be too hung over to care, but make sure you separate your garbage from the night before into two parts — recyclable and non -recyclable. That should bring a perfectly green end to a perfectly green party!
