MBBS to Computer Science & Engineering
I was a medical student before I join engineering and most of my friends asked me why I changed my faculty. So today I just want to share few words with you all regarding this very question. My aims when I was a young boy were to become a Doctor, Engineer, Pilot, and others. Then one day dad bought a computer at home.
The happiness of using computer plus eager to know more and more. I still remember the blue screen of Windows 98 with that startup music. Sometimes I feel that big cat at the desktop is my own and now I’ve lost him. I was the only one among my friends who had a computer at home. I used to talk about computer has this and that to them. They used to show a great interest in my computer’s talks-like-stuff.
Days passed and I had already learned to use Typeshala, Paint Brush, Microsoft Word (esp word art), MS Excel and others. Then one day I get an internet connection on our Personal Computer. It was a dialup internet connection. I want to add few words here. Our home there was the only one home which had a land-line telephone and internet for many years. Ram Sharma Lamichhane, my dad was the first one to bring phone lines from the place where there lies the highest suspension bridge of Nepal (Kushma-Gyandi Suspension Bridge).
Almost twenty years ago we already had already placed telephone wires at the height of 135 meters over the Modi River. Many people at that time didn’t believe my dad and also kept saying that he is going to hang a rope in the sky. But my dad made those people’s mouth shut by making the thing happen in real. He was a very good visionary man. My dad taught me that one should be aware of ‘the present’ of what will be happening in future. He then gave an example of King Prithvi Narayan Shah.
Now let’s come back to the topic. From then I learned about the terms of the internet, upload/download, software/hardware, installing/uninstalling. Then my interest in PC was how the computer worked. I began opening CPU and even damaged RAMs, Motherboards. I also learn about pornography too. Then I learned about programming languages, JAVA, JS, CSS, hacking, website designing, blogging.
At that time hacking, Nokia phones were in use. Then later came social networking sites like Hi5. After then I began to explore learning more and more. It was possible only because of Torrent sites especially The Pirate Bay (TPB). However, KickAss Torrent is the best p2p site today.
When I was in 7th grade I downloaded a book on developing software. I bought a Microsoft Visual Studio DVD and installed Visual Basic. From that day I began searching for source codes, open projects, and modify, edit, re-compiled. In this way, I learned how to build applications using VB. Even I made projects for the student of Chelsea International Academy (CIA), Thapagoun taking A-levels computing’s examination.
Later I learned about PHP/MySql query, SQL injection, cross scripting (CXS), IP bypassing using a proxy. I was on the half-way of learning C, C++ and others but the following year I had to focus on my School Leaving Examinations (SLC). So I stopped doing those for two years.
In those two years, I almost didn’t touch PC, as usual, I used to do. That final year of High School started and that year I fell in love with someone too. I didn’t know days could be felt like that but that was one of the awesome moment or maybe everyone’s school days are the best days of their life.
Then time passed and I also passed the SLC. After then I joined Kings College (Mid-Baneshwor) & Nobel Academy (New Baneshwor), took biology as I was quite interested in that too. My aim had totally changed after school. I don’t know why I choose biology but I took additional mathematics as suggested by dad if in case I had to join engineering in future. I passed 12th standard and join Vibrant MBBS Entrance Preparation classes. I attended Institute of Medicine (IOM) examination and later exams of Ministry of Education (MOE). I got a partial scholarship but was willing to wait one more year for the full scholarship. I had even managed to get some discounts in Medical colleges but I thought they were not as much good as IOM.
So I went home and my father reminded me of mine passion & interests in Computer. I had already tried for MBBS and also was willing not to lose one more year. So I booked a seat five months earlier for B.E in Computer Science at CMR Institute of Technology, Banglore.
Now I’m currently studying Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science (BE. CS) here at Bengaluru.
Now my aim is all clear and I’m ready to set my goal for the post.
