Nawalparasi Bus Accident, Road Mishap, Nepal
In this post I just want to share about the last bus mishap in
Nawalparasi of Nepal. This news article is courtesy of TVs, Online News
Sites and especially based on Reporters Nepal.
At least 35 people have died after a bus ferrying Bol Bam pilgrims fell
into the Gandak canal in Triveni of Nawalparasi on Sunday July 15
2012.
As reported from Nawalparasi: Number of passengers that died in
Nawalparasi bus accident on Sunday has reached 38. The bus carrying
Indian pilgrims reeled into Gandak Canal at Triveni Susta V.D.C of
Nawalparasi district last Sunday’s afternoon. Police personals involved
in the rescue work have informed that most of the dead are Indian
citizens.
The bus (Lu 1 Kha 2356) was carrying more than hundred pilgrims when it
fell into the canal. Search for the one dozen missing pilgrims is still
on. Police has dried up the canal for easing the rescue work. The
victims, hailing from bordering Indian town of Jhulneri, were heading to
Triveni to participate in the Bol Bam religious gathering there. Of the
dead, bodies of 25 women, 12 males and the bus driver has been recovered
from the canal. Officials involved in the rescue have expressed fear
that the toll could rise even more. Quoting four of the survivors who
were able to save themselves by swimming across the canal, police
informed that the driver was drunk and could not control the overloaded
bus.
I really express heartfelt condolence to all the victims and may they
rest peace in heaven.
