PhonePay India’s partnership with eSewa and Hotel Association Nepal, aims to increase the use of UPI

To increase the use of UPI in Nepal’s PhonePay network, PhonePay India has announced a partnership with Nepal’s first payment service provider company, eSewa, and Hotel Association Nepal during the Fewa Festival, which will be held from April 11 to April 14 in celebration of the Nepali New Year.

This year, to increase the popularity of UPI in Nepal, PhonePay is conducting several activities during the Phewa New Year Festival to highlight the convenience of digital payments using UPI among customers and create awareness about digital payments among local merchants.

In addition to digital branding, eSewa and Bharatiya Phonepay will lead other interactive activities in collaboration with Hotel Association Pokhara to teach how to use digital payment services and demonstrate the ease of payment through UPI.

More than three thousand traders are expected to participate in the festival, and more than one lakh domestic and international tourists will also attend.
Regarding this partnership, Ritesh Pai, Chief Executive Officer of FonePay International Payments, said that he was very excited to be able to popularize the UPI system in Nepal by partnering with eSewa and Hotel Association Nepal at the famous Nepali festival Phewa New Year Festival.

“Our focus will be on creating awareness and creating awareness among merchants to ensure the presence of UPI in the PhonePay network in Nepal,” he said.

Similarly, eSewa Chief Executive Director Jagdish Khadka said that the partnership between PhonePay and the Hotel Association of Nepal for the New Year Festival is a golden opportunity to further promote digital payments in Nepal.

Likewise, Laxman Subedi, president of the Hotel Association of Pokhara, informed that the 19th Fewa New Year Festival aims to attract 3 lakh tourists and that arrangements have been made to give up to 20 per cent discount in hotels to tourists visiting Pokhara.

Speaking at the event, Diwas Sapkota, Chief Executive Officer, of PhonePay Nepal, said that the strategic partnership with PhonePay India, eSewa and Nepal Hoteliers Association has provided further encouragement to promote the integration of UPI capabilities in the PhonePay network in Nepal.
