Four lakh embossed number plates ready, but only 75 thousand connected

Kathmandu. It has been found that the number of vehicles installing embossed number plates is low. According to the Transport Management Department, 400,000 embossed number plates were produced till January 08, but only 78,000 vehicles have been installed so far.

Uddhav Prasad Rizal, director general of the department, said that even though the plates were produced, they could not be distributed because the transport management office under the province did not ask for them.

“The provincial office is also confused as to whether the embossed number plates can be connected immediately after getting them, if not, where to put them,” Rizal told Tekpana, “and they are also distributing licenses.” It is also more crowded. As a result, the human resources cannot handle it.”

He argues that the issue of embossed number plates is politically controversial, so the connection work has not progressed effectively.

Rizal said that the department is coordinating with the provincial government for the installation of embossed number plates. He further said, “We have also agreed to facilitate the installation of embossed number plates. We provide manpower for that. Then its stock is cleared.”

He said that at the beginning of the current financial year, embossed number plates were being installed and distributed from four places, now the work of installing and distributing embossed number plates has also started from Pokhara and Butwal.

“The project of installing embossed number plates is 10 years old. It was started by printing 2.5 lakh number plates and connecting them immediately. However, there was a delay due to various reasons,” said Rizal, “especially we lack infrastructure. It is more complicated because it has to be built in the center and connected to the transport office.

Rizal says that because the process is complicated, they are not able to provide services from local bodies or district level. He further said, “There was also a language dispute in between. There was a bit of confusion. That's why it's late.”

While negotiating for the embossed number plates, the government had agreed to print them in English. As a result, the subject was heavily criticized. after To be kept in both Nepali and English languages After that, the matter was calmed down.

“Regarding the language dispute, there is a law that it can be kept in two languages,” he said, “but when the agreement was reached, it was agreed to keep it only in English. According to the terms of the agreement, English had to be kept for 2.5 million embossed number plates.

He said that the language on the number plates should be changed to Nepali. However, he said that the government can keep the Nepali language in the rest of the 2.5 million embossed number plates.

Advantages of Embossed Number Plates:

Director General Rizal says that embossed number plates are useful and beneficial for both the government and the vehicle owners. “This is the scientific management of vehicles. Regarding yesterday's number plates, if you have to look for the details, you have to go to the transport office and turn your back. Now the details of vehicles with embossed number plates can be viewed from place to place. With the help of RFID device and RFID gate, all the details of the vehicle can be found at once,” he said.

He argues that this technology is essential in the current era of technology. He said that from the point of view of security, the driver needs to know where he has gone and the embossed number plate plays an important role in that. Rizal further said, “Especially if the vehicle is stolen, such information helps in finding the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle may have forgotten to pay the tax. In that case, this technology will remind you at the time of tax payment. Brings ease in management.”

The process of installing embossed number plates is more complicated than ordinary number plates. In this context, Rizal said, “There are some complications in technology. The system that we have put in this device cannot be kept like a simple number plate. Anyone can make ordinary number plates in the market. However, no such arrangement can be made in the case of embossed number plates. We can make this a little more flexible and list it at the workshop level and deliver it to the municipality or district. We are working for that.”
