Fraud by claiming to be a bank employee and asking for OTP code, Banks request to be aware


Banks have asked to be aware of fraudsters asking for OTP code claiming to be bank employees. By issuing a notification, banks have requested to be careful as they are being cheated by asking for OTP code under various pretexts of being bank employees.

In recent times, it has been found that unauthorized persons have been cheating the concerned customers by asking them for the number (OTP) received on their mobile phones, making various excuses including updating KYC, etc., as bank employees.

After it was found that fraud was committed, various banks issued notices and warned the banks not to give the OTP code to anyone.

Banks have requested customers not to give sensitive information such as account details, card number, PIN, OTP received on mobile and email to anyone.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, 106 people have applied for fraud using OTP codes till May 20 of the current fiscal year 2079/80.
